The 11 Isekai Anime without Harem And Ecchi-Free For You

Isekai is a very popular anime genre. It involves a particular setting where the main character is suddenly transported to another world or dimension.

Often in this kind of product, there is the tendency to have a few light sexual elements that are present all throughout the show.

In this listicle, we are specifically trying to find anime pertaining to the Isekai genre without harem/ecchi elements that are often present in this subgenre.

The traditional harem isn’t the only thing we are going to exclude but also reverse harem situations.

This listicle is purely based on our opinions and knowledge.

11. Aura Battler Dunbine

Aura Battler Dunbine

Aura Battler Dunbine is an anime from the early ’80s by Sunrise, the same studio that later will produce famous works such as Gintama and Cowboy Bebop.

The main character Shou Zama is a teenager who is summoned to Byston Well, a medieval fantasy world where lord Drake Luft wants to expand his power and influence.

Shou is put under his service and is tasked to pilot one of these Aura Battlers, insectoid mecha designed by a man named Shot Weapon, who is from Upper Earth like our protagonist.

As he realizes the lord’s true intentions, the boy chooses to join the fight against Drake and team up with Neal Given, a young girl who decided to rebel against him.

Shou will find himself tangled in a war where he and his comrades try to prevent Drake’s ascension to power.

Shou finds himself fighting alongside many female characters but we can’t classify it as a harem. The reason is that it lacks the sexual elements needed to be considered part of that genre.

10. .hack//Sign

.hack//Sign

.hack//Sign is an anime belonging to a large multimedia project, namely the .hack project. It’s an Isekai where characters end up in a video game-like world of the MMORPG genre.

The videogame world is rendered in a truly realistic way that is recognizable to the viewer. This is also thanks to the frequent use of videogame jargon terminologies such as bugs, servers, pg, or skills.

It stars Tsukasa, a mage class character controlled by a boy of the same name in the real world. However, one day, for unknown causes, he fails to log out of the game, raising doubts about its true reality of it.

A mysterious monster will appear around Tsukasa that apparently doesn’t belong to the game code and only responds to the protagonist’s commands, making one doubt that he is using hacks.

This is a must-watch if you’re into MMORPG and gaming in general and it doesn’t involve any sexual elements or ecchi vibes.

The only issue with this anime adaptation is its slow pacing and since it may be confusing if you don’t know the original trilogy of games.

9.12 Kingdoms

12 Kingdoms

Spread over 45 episodes, the anime of 12 Kingdoms was released in 2002, based on the light novel of the same name, as is often the case in such cases.

Yoko Nakajima is a high school student, bored with her life. But this boredom ends when a man, who claims to be from another world, breaks into her classroom, kneeling in front of her.

This elegant character, named Keiki, claims to be her servant and guardian, as she would be his queen.

Thus begins Yoko’s adventure into a fantasy world inhabited by all kinds of creatures, while the girl must figure out in a role-playing game what her role is in that realm.

Despite the initial tension between Yoko and Keiki, the two of them will never develop romantic feelings for each other. So no ecchi elements and not even reverse harem vibes, just a normal fantasy isekai.

8. Digimon

Digimon

This series from the late 90s revolves around a group of children who one day are transported into a new world populated by strange animal-like creatures called Digimon.

The Digimon tell the kids that they’ve landed in Digiworld and they will have to find their way back home. Every kid will get a Digimon partner and the group will be led by Taichi Yagami and Agumon.

The kids will unravel the mysteries of the Digiworld and they will grow alongside their Digimon.

This show draws inspiration from the much more famous Pokémon and the digital aesthetic makes it very much a product of its time.

The plot is simple and very enjoyable but, being a series meant for a young audience, it doesn’t involve any sexual element whatsoever.

7. Drifters

Drifters

Set initially in the Sengoku era of the real world, Drifters tells of the adventures of samurai Shimazu Toyohisa, who on the verge of death will find himself in another world unknown to him.

After he draws his last breath on the battlefield, instead of dying he will find himself in a strange corridor with many doors, where a man on guard will notice him and immediately send him inside one of them.

Thus it will be that Shimazu will find himself inside a new world, this time inspired by medieval Europe, inhabited, however, by both humans and fantastic creatures, such as elves and dragons.

But he will also find famous warriors from other eras, ready to fight.

The work aims to create a surreal yet intriguing scenario in which legendary warriors from different eras clash, testing their skills.

And no, there are no ecchi elements either. If you’re looking for an Isekai with a compelling plot, you should give this a shot.

6. Records of Lodoss War

Records of Lodoss war

Records of Lodoss War is another isekai cult you can’t miss in your collection. There are no ecchi elements at all, and harem is not an option.

This anime from the early 90s is set in Lodoss, a kingdom haunted by war for thousands of years. When finally a fragile peace becomes possible, an evil witch makes her appearance.

This evil presence wants to create a political imbalance and foster conflict over the land to avoid any kingdom from getting central control over Lodoss.

At this point, a group of six young champions from all over Lodoss is tasked with defeating the witch and finally bringing peace to the land.

This is a story set in an alternate fantasy universe during medieval times so magic is the norm and every character is equipped with some kind of power that makes him stand out.

This was a time in history when books weren’t printed but copied by hand and this led to a lack of books available for anyone to read.

Despite the many challenges presented to her, Myne will prove how much she values books and her passion for them.

It is the farthest thing from an anime with a harem. This is an adorable slice of life that you shouldn’t miss. It presents itself as a simple story about a cheerful little girl and this is exactly what you will get.

Finding himself facing God and not believing in it, the man gets punished by being catapulted into a parallel world at war in the guise of Tanya Degurechaff. He will have to redeem himself here to have his sins forgiven. Thus begins his military career.

The main character is a cynical man reincarnated into a strong woman so there is nothing sexual about this story.

A real breath of fresh air for the Isekai genre, that offers a whole new vision in a realistic war scenario and with a protagonist who is anything but heroic.

2. Magic Knight Rayearth

Magic Knight Rayearth

A 1994 anime that features three girls, Hikaru, Umi, and Fu, who during a school trip to Tokyo Tower are teleported to the fantasy world of Cefiro.

They were summoned to Cefiro by Princess Emeraude to fulfill their destinies as Magic Knights.

The three girls form a magical guild that is tasked with fighting to save the Princess from the evil High Priest Zagato.

This anime has a lot of the Isekai genre’s strong points like a fantasy setting and a trio of main characters that get transported in it to fulfill a mission.

What is lacking is the ecchi vibe. There are many female characters but they’re not sexualized at all. Plus, there isn’t even any reverse harem involved.

1. Log Horizon

Log Horizon

Unfortunately for the characters of the series, Shiro, Naotsugu, and Akatsuki, this fantasy world will become their prison, as they mysteriously cannot get out of it.

The protagonist named Shiro is an engineering major in real life and has been playing the game for eight years. This extensive experience gives an almost encyclopedic knowledge of the game and its rules.

He is the one behind the founding of the guild Log Horizon, intending to improve the city of Akiba.

There are many characters, male and female, but it doesn’t get to a point where this creates a harem-like situation.

If you enjoy an anime set in an MMO- like world this is the place for you.

Log Horizon does a great job of introducing many little details that fans of the genre can appreciate and understand so we feel like you shouldn’t miss this one.
