Shikoku is one of eight regions in present-day Japan, is a real island, and the smallest of Japan’s four islands.
Shikoku then is split into four provinces and is divided into four prefectures. These are Kagawa, Tokushima, Ehime, and Kōchi, which you will see in many of the anime in this list.
The shows will feature a lot of sea settings, tropical, and rural areas.
This listicle is based on our experience and we will update it as soon as we get new information.

7. Monkey Turn

Monkey Turn is a sports anime, but it takes as its protagonist a sport that is rarely examined: jet ski racing.
Tadano Kenji, the main character, is a practitioner of the sport and, as is often the case in such anime, he wants to become the best in the world at his discipline.
And what better setting for jet ski racing than the typical maritime settings of Shikoku, which we will see in all its glory.
6. Mai-HiME

Sci-Fi action anime with a school setting that was released in 2004 in 26 episodes, which turns out to be very basic for its genre but all in all enjoyable.
After winning a scholarship, Mai and her brother Takumi manage to enroll in the prestigious Fuka Institute.
Soon after their arrival, Mai discovers that she is a Hime, a special girl with special powers who is destined to fight monsters called Orphan.
The setting is not specified, we only know that the high school is located on an island.
But paying slight attention to the places outside the high school that we will notice, the resemblance to Shikoku is unmistakable.
5. Ocean Waves

Rikako is a beautiful, intelligent, and bright girl. Having moved to the city of Kochi in Shikoku as a sophomore in high school, she befriends two of her peers, Taku and Matsuno.
Several years later, Taku, now a college student, recalls through a long flashback his relationship with the two friends.
Affection but also envy and numerous fights because of Rikako, are the drivers of his friendship with Matsuno. They were part of a love triangle with the girl indeed.
Lots of nostalgia, which you will hardly miss in watching this classic 1993 movie.
4. Yuna Yuki is a Hero

In this anime, Yuna Yuki, the protagonist, is a modern, ever-smiling heroine who attends her middle school’s Hero Club. She does her best to help others and bring a smile to everyone’s face.
But one day Yuna must become an even greater heroine and in the true sense of the word.
Mysterious destructive forces called Vertex begin to threaten the world she loves. Together with her best friend Mimori Togo and sisters Fu and Itsuki Inubozaki, they will have to transform into magical girls to save the world.
This is a Majokko series that is quite underrated and manages to blend magical girls with slice-of-life elements and drama. This is not entirely new and the reference to Madoka Magica is strong but it’s still one interesting experiment.
The setting this time is near Sanshuu, of Kagawa Prefecture, in the region of Shikoku.
3. My Bride is a Mermaid

Comedy and ecchi series dating back to 2007 with 26 episodes.
Nagasumi can finally enjoy his summer vacation by traveling with his parents to his grandmother’s house, which lives a stone’s throw from the sea.
But just as he’s swimming, the boy is caught in a leg cramp and is in danger of drowning.
Fortunately for him, he will be saved by none other than a beautiful mermaid. The law of the sea, however, provides a death sentence for mermaids who reveal their nature to a human. The only solution? Getting married.
The anime is set at the picturesque location of the Seto Inland Sea, a sea that washes three of Japan’s four major islands, including Shikoku.
2. Poco’s Udon World

Poco’s Udon World, released in 2016, is a cute anime with cheerful vibes and some sad moments.
The story is set in Kagawa, Shikoku region, a city known as the prefecture of Udon, it features 30-year-old Souta Tawara, who returns to Kagawa to inherit the family’s Udon restaurant after the death of his father.
Upon his arrival there, he will find Poco, a cute baby tanuki. The story is all about the daily events of the two housemates as they soon form a family-like relationship.
Poco’s Udon World does a masterful job of reproducing some of the sceneries, like the Ritsurin Garden in Takamatsu, or even the pier, the Takamatsu Port Tamamo Breakwater Lighthouse.
1. Teasing Master Takagi-san

One of the most popular anime in recent years takes as its structure that of “girl harrassing boy, but underneath there are feelings from both of them”.
Genre is very much in vogue lately, with examples like Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro.
These premises are reflected in Nishikata and her deskmate Takagi. The two enjoy tormenting each other, but there are mutual feelings underneath.
The anime is set in the town of Tonoshō, precisely in Shodoshima, in Kagawa. This is visible in the rural and seaside setting and there are many references to real locations.
Angel Road and Kashimamyo Shrine are some examples, and the accuracy of the setting is thanks to the author, Soichiro Yamamoto.
His birthplace is Tonoshō so he knows how to show others the beauty and magnificence of the town.
