Chiba is located in the Kanto region of Honshu and borders Tokyo Prefecture to the west. Many people don’t know that this part of Japan is quite loved and also the setting for some anime.
It’s part of the Greater Tokyo Area and is one of the most important industrial areas of the country. Its capital is called Chiba and it’s normally the most featured in shows.
We will also mention other places like Futtsu but unfortunately, many of the anime take inspiration from Chiba and create fantasy settings.
This listicle is based on our knowledge and opinions, as well as the ranking.
Table of Contents
10. Battle Programmer Shirase

A 2000s comedy consisting of 12 episodes with computers and programming at its core.
Akira Shirase is a very talented computer programmer who, because of his incredible skills, is approached by various people to implement hacks, ethical or otherwise. The story revolves around his performing tasks and some parodies around the profession of the programmer.
Of course, you will have realized that the real main theme of the anime is technology, and we will often see the main character with his hands on a PC.
But in between outdoor interludes, we will see the city where Shirase lives, and of course, we are talking about Chiba.
Unfortunately, we won’t see the real power of the setting that often and this is the main reason why it’s so low in this ranking.
9. Action Heroine Cheer Fruits

An anime with a peculiar but interesting premise, released in 2017 in the classic 12 episodes. However, do not expect a masterpiece, but rather classic noncommittal viewing.
The story is set in an alternative Japan, where due to a media phenomenon, there is a superheroine in every district, who plays the role of the real idol of the place, and each one rivals her colleagues.
The story takes place in Hinano City, a bucolic setting inspired by Chiba Prefecture, where Misaki Shirogane, the main character, out of love for her small town decides to become the local superheroine.
8. My Little Sister Can’t Be This Cute

The story of My Little Sister Can’t Be This Cute follows the daily life of an ordinary high school boy named Kyosuke Kosaka, whose sister, Kirino, is a rather famous model.
For years Kyosuke and Kirino have ignored each other, but one day the boy, on his way home, happens to find an anime DVD at the front door.
Intrigued, Kyosuke opens the box, making a rather puzzling discovery. Inside it will not be a rather racy adult video game.
My Little Sister Can’t Be This Cute begins in Chiba, where the two live, but then travels all over Japan, looking for places and nerdy stores to satisfy her sister’s strange kink.
7. Buddy Complex

Aoba Watase is a regular high school student living peacefully in Chiba, that is saved by one of his classmates from the attack of a giant robot.
The girl later turns out to be from the future from 70 years further back, returned to the past to save Aoba, and after saving him, brings him into the future to fight an ongoing war.
Here Aoba shows high compatibility with a pilot named Dio Weinberg. The two boys perform a successful coupling, and this allows them to share experiences and subsequently increase their capabilities and skills.
As you may have guessed, we are dealing with a mixed setting, combining the Chiba Prefecture and Japan in both the past and the future.
6. Lagrange – The Flower of Rin-ne

Lagrange – The Flower of Rin-ne is a mecha anime with an all-female cast from 2012 that has passed very quietly. For better or worse it doesn’t add anything new to the genre, failing to make itself unique or appealing.
Madoka is a girl full of energy and always in a good mood, and in her spare time, she helps those in need.
But her life is turned upside down when she receives a strange request from a girl named Ran that reads: “Would you pilot a robot?”.
The initial premise isn’t reflected in the setting, which is done very well and will succeed in pleasing.
The anime is set in Kamogawa, a coastal town in Chiba, full of sea, beaches, and religious sites.
5. ZegaPain

Kyo Sogoru is a hyperactive boy living in Chiba, the only actual member of the swimming club.
He doesn’t have many friends, and his life proceeds smoothly until he meets Misaki Shizuno. She seems to know him very well though he does not remember her.
Soon Kyo is pulled into a kind of an alternate reality by Misaki, where the boy is forced to fight a war.
Chiba is only the beginning of the story, since the real setting is the virtual world. ZegaPain is a good anime to watch, mixing mecha with Matrix-style virtual reality elements.
4. Dagashi Kashi

In an out-of-town town, You Shikada runs a small candy store and hopes that one day his son will be able to continue his business. Kokonotsu, however, isn’t at all intent on doing so as he dreams of becoming a mangaka.
One summer day the beautiful Shidare Hotaru, heir to a famous candy business, comes to visit the Shikadas, proposing to incorporate You’s small business into her large company.
You are willing to accept based on one condition: that Hotaru convinces his son to succeed him in running the family business.
The anime has a fairly bland and uncommitted story, but it does an excellent job of recreating the bucolic settings of Chiba, with the places looking like real postcards.
The city where Dagashi Kashi is set is called Futtsu, in the southern part of Chiba, which is represented quite well in the anime.
In this regard, we thank the blog of a nice gentleman who undertook to take photos in the same places as the show.
3. KINMOZA!

A nice comic slice of life, very entertaining if you are looking for something light.
Shinobu Oomiya is a 15-year-old Japanese girl who spent time in a host family in Britain. Back in Japan in Chiba where she lives, she greatly misses the experience abroad.
But one day she receives a welcome letter. Writing it is Alice, the daughter of the host family, who is on her way to see her.
The main cast is made up of 5 girls, the other 3 are Shinobu’s classmates and will complete this bizarre group of main characters.
We will then see the likable misadventures of the group around Chiba, Japan, and also London. KINMOZA! is ideal if you have zero expectations and love the cute girls doing cute things genre.
2. AIR

Drama-sentimental series from the 2000s, with supernatural elements. It consists of 13 episodes that are all in all enjoyable.
Young Yukito Kunisaki makes a living by traveling from town to town performing a magic act with a puppet given to him by his mother.
The woman, before she died, told him to find the girl in the sky and save her from her fate. On one of the trips, arriving in Chiba, Yukito meets Misuzu Kamio. Could it be her?
Fantasy and reality blend well in this setting in Chiba, making it recognizable while being supernatural. The setting is an unknown small town in Chiba Prefecture, characterized by bucolic views and a countryside vibe.
1. My teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU

A 13-episode anime based on the light novel series of the same name written by Wataru Watari.
The story features Hachiman Hikigaya, an antisocial high school student with a distorted and pessimistic view of social life that leads him to be alone.
That is until his teacher forces him to join the institution’s volunteer club, which is attended and run by the prettiest girl in school, Yukino Yukinoshita.
The two will find that they have much in common, but joining the club with Yui, another attractive girl will start a love triangle.
Oregairu is entirely set in and around Chiba and shows various local places and customs. To give a famous example, in the fireworks episode we will see Inage Seaside Park, where Hachiman and Yukino sit.
